How to Load a Dumpster the Right Way
A well-loaded dumpster holds far more than a carelessly filled one — and avoids overage fees. Here's how our Mission Viejo customers get the most out of every rental.
The golden rules
Follow these and you'll fit more, pay less, and keep pickup smooth:
- Break everything down — cabinets, boxes, furniture
- Load flat and heavy items first, along the bottom
- Fill gaps with small debris as you go
- Keep the load level — nothing above the top rail
- Don't block the door if you still need to walk items in
Start with the walk-in door
Our dumpsters have a door that swings open. Walk heavy items in first and stack them neatly at the far end — it's safer than lifting them over the side and packs far tighter.
Why the fill line matters
Drivers can't legally haul an overfilled dumpster — debris above the rail can fall onto the road. If you're over the line, items have to come off before pickup, which delays your project. When in doubt, size up or ask about a swap.
Common questions
What happens if I overfill it?
We'll ask you to remove the excess before pickup, or we can discuss options — but it's always cheaper to load level the first time.
Can I put heavy stuff like concrete on top?
No — heavy items always go on the bottom so the load stays stable during hauling.
